Site Under Construction. Please help!

This blog is under construction. When complete, it will attempt to track descendants of Joris Jansen Rapalje and Catalinje Trico, who immigrated to Manhattan from Holland in 1624. Anyone having information relating to this couple, or who believes themselves to be descendants, please post details. Thank you.

  1. Hello,

I live in the former home of Walter Rappelyea Davies. He was the second owner (1910-), a lawyer, and the treasurer of the Brooklyn Committee for the Prevention of Tuberculosis. I found business records and personal papers dating from 1890 - 1910 under a false floor.

  2. I am a descendant of Sarah Rapalje as well as her younger sister Judith Rapalje. I'm most interested in finding out more about their father Joris, who is reportedly illegitimate. Does anyone have any information about him? I have some but would like to compare notes. Some of what I have is contradictory. Please email me at Ahkiona@yahoo.com.

  3. I am descended through Daniel. I believe the information my father has tracked down is correct, he has it posted on Ancestry.com as "Rapaljerpm Family Tree". My e-mail is Robert.Rapalje@gmail.com. I also found many good references about our family in a great book "The Island at the Center of the World" by Russell Shorto. It is described as "The epic story of Dutch Manhattan and the forgotten colony that shaped America."

  4. Robert, That book was a great discovery for me, and a very good read! I recommend it to all, particulaarly Rapalje descendants. Mary
